The Kwara State government has ordered closure of schools in four Local Government Areas (LGAs) due to insecurity.
Three people were reported killed in Bokungi community, Edu Local Government Area of the state, on Wednesday. That was
less than 24 hours after the brutal attack on an Apostolic church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of the state, where three were killed and 30 abducted.
Those killed according to local sources include two rice farmers, with the third, a vigilante injured.
The government has promised proactive security measures in schools, as part of efforts to protect school children.
The measures are deployed in Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke Ero Local Government Areas.
The government said it is determined to curtail the activities of kidnappers who may want to use schoolchildren as human shields.
The commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, in a statement, said the measures also cover the boarding schools in Irepodun.
The measure, the statement added, may remain in place for a while.
On Monday, bandits had invaded Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, Danko Wasagu area of Kebbi State, killing one official and abducting 25 students.
